2002-01-30Removed version number from file header.Tim Potter1-2/+1
Changed "SMB/Netbios" to "SMB/CIFS" in file header. (This used to be commit 6a58c9bd06d0d7502a24bf5ce5a2faf0a146edfa)
2001-12-05OK. Smbpasswd -j is DEAD.Andrew Bartlett1-21/+0
This moves the rest of the functionality into the 'net rpc join' code. Futhermore, this moves that entire area over to the libsmb codebase, rather than the crufty old rpc_client stuff. I have also fixed up the smbpasswd -a -m bug in the process. We also have a new 'net rpc changetrustpw' that can be called from a cron-job to regularly change the trust account password, for sites that run winbind but not smbd. With a little more work, we can kill rpc_client from smbd entirly! (It is mostly the domain auth stuff - which I can rework - and the spoolss stuff that sombody else will need to look over). Andrew Bartlett (This used to be commit 575897e879fc175ba702adf245384033342c903d)
2001-11-24This is another rather major change to the samba authenticaionAndrew Bartlett1-4/+5
subystem. The particular aim is to modularized the interface - so that we can have arbitrary password back-ends. This code adds one such back-end, a 'winbind' module to authenticate against the winbind_auth_crap functionality. While fully-functional this code is mainly useful as a demonstration, because we don't get back the info3 as we would for direct ntdomain authentication. This commit introduced the new 'auth methods' parameter, in the spirit of the 'auth order' discussed on the lists. It is renamed because not all the methods may be consulted, even if previous methods fail - they may not have a suitable challenge for example. Also, we have a 'local' authentication method, for old-style 'unix if plaintext, sam if encrypted' authentication and a 'guest' module to handle guest logins in a single place. While this current design is not ideal, I feel that it does provide a better infrastructure than the current design, and can be built upon. The following parameters have changed: - use rhosts = This has been replaced by the 'rhosts' authentication method, and can be specified like 'auth methods = guest rhosts' - hosts equiv = This needs both this parameter and an 'auth methods' entry to be effective. (auth methods = guest hostsequiv ....) - plaintext to smbpasswd = This is replaced by specifying 'sam' rather than 'local' in the auth methods. The security = parameter is unchanged, and now provides defaults for the 'auth methods' parameter. The available auth methods are: guest rhosts hostsequiv sam (passdb direct hash access) unix (PAM, crypt() etc) local (the combination of the above, based on encryption) smbserver (old security=server) ntdomain (old security=domain) winbind (use winbind to cache DC connections) Assistance in testing, or the production of new and interesting authentication modules is always appreciated. Andrew Bartlett (This used to be commit 8d31eae52a9757739711dbb82035a4dfe6b40c99)
2001-10-31This is a farily large patch (3300 lines) and reworks most of the AuthRewriteAndrew Bartlett1-4/+4
code. In particular this assists tpot in some of his work, becouse it provides the connection between the authenticaion and the vuid generation. Major Changes: - Fully malloc'ed structures. - Massive rework of the code so that all structures are made and destroyed using malloc and free, rather than hanging around on the stack. - SAM_ACCOUNT unix uids and gids are now pointers to the same, to allow them to be declared 'invalid' without the chance that people might get ROOT by default. - kill off some of the "DOMAIN\user" lookups. These can be readded at a more appropriate place (probably domain_client_validate.c) in the future. They don't belong in session setups. - Massive introduction of DATA_BLOB structures, particularly for passwords. - Use NTLMSSP flags to tell the backend what its getting, rather than magic lenghths. - Fix winbind back up again, but tpot is redoing this soon anyway. - Abstract much of the work in srv_netlog_nt back into auth helper functions. This is a LARGE change, and any assistance is testing it is appriciated. Domain logons are still broken (as far as I can tell) but other functionality seems intact. Needs testing with a wide variety of MS clients. Andrew Bartlett (This used to be commit f70fb819b2f57bd57232b51808345e2319d52f6c)

2001-08-12This patch does a number of things, mostly smaller than they look :-)Andrew Bartlett1-10/+8
In particuar, it moves the domain_client_validate stuff out of auth_domain.c to somwhere where they (I hope) they can be shared with winbind better. (This may need some work) The main purpose of this patch was however to improve some of the internal documentation and to correctly place become_root()/unbecome_root() calls within the code. Finally this patch moves some more of auth.c into other files, auth_unix.c in this case. Andrew Bartlett (This used to be commit ea1c547ac880def29f150de2172c95213509350e)
2001-08-03This is my 'Authentication Rewrite' version 1.01, mostly as submitted toAndrew Bartlett1-5/+7
samba-technical a few weeks ago. The idea here is to standardize the checking of user names and passwords, thereby ensuring that all authtentications pass the same standards. The interface currently implemented in as nt_status = check_password(user_info, server_info) where user_info contains (mostly) the authentication data, and server_info contains things like the user-id they got, and their resolved user name. The current ugliness with the way the structures are created will be killed the next revision, when they will be created and malloced by creator functions. This patch also includes the first implementation of NTLMv2 in HEAD, but which needs some more testing. We also add a hack to allow plaintext passwords to be compared with smbpasswd, not the system password database. Finally, this patch probably reintroduces the PAM accounts bug we had in 2.2.0, I'll fix that once this hits the tree. (I've just finished testing it on a wide variety of platforms, so I want to get this patch in). (This used to be commit b30b6202f31d339b48d51c0d38174cafd1cfcd42)
2001-07-10This fixes security=domain, which has been broke since the big charsetAndrew Bartlett1-9/+2
changeover. For my own sainity I have created a new function to fill out both the header and buffer for a string in an RPC struct. This DOES NOT take a length argument, only the actual string to be placed. The RPC code is currently littered with code that does init_uni_hdr() followed immidiatly by init_unistr2(), and often the length argument is wrong. (It was for the code I changed, even before the charset stuff). Another bug where we made strings AT LEAST MAX_UNICODE_LEN long hid this bug. This works for loopback connections to Samba, and can't be any more broke than it was before :-). (We had double and revese conversions, fun...). In particular this makes us multibyte complient. In any case, if there are no objections I will slowly convert other bits of code to the same system. (This used to be commit cf1d1cd9d6362f6e32ed9c2f6d2f6f25c47705ad)
2001-07-04The big character set handling changeover!Andrew Tridgell1-6/+3
This commit gets rid of all our old codepage handling and replaces it with iconv. All internal strings in Samba are now in "unix" charset, which may be multi-byte. * Added SEC_CHAN_BDC * Propagate sec_chan into the various functions which change trust account passwords, so they can be used for domain control and inter-domain trusts. * Fix for endianness problem reported by Edan Idzerda <edan@mtu.edu>. A BUFFER2 is really a "unibuf" in my terminology and we should treat it as such. * Added some more common NT structures (BIGINT, BUFHDR2, BUFFER4). * Added NET_SAM_SYNC (-> NetDatabaseSync2) RPC for account replication. Still experimental and incomplete, with a few too many NULL security descriptors lying around (must go look at Jeremy's SD code). Haven't worked out password encryption yet either. However, the XXX_INFO structures I've added to rpc_netlogon.h are quite nice as they give some insight into how these objects are stored in the SAM. 1998-11-29weekend work. user / group database API.Luke Leighton1-4/+4
- split sam_passwd and smb_passwd into separate higher-order function tables - renamed struct smb_passwd's "smb_user" to "unix_user". added "nt_user" plus user_rid, and added a "wrap" function in both sam_passwd and smb_passwd password databases to fill in the blank entries that are not obtained from whatever password database API instance is being used. NOTE: whenever a struct smb_passwd or struct sam_passwd is used, it MUST be initialised with pwdb_sam_init() or pwd_smb_init(), see chgpasswd.c for the only example outside of the password database APIs i could find. - added query_useraliases code to rpcclient. - dealt with some nasty interdependencies involving non-smbd programs and the password database API. this is still not satisfactorily resolved completelely, but it's the best i can do for now. - #ifdef'd out some password database options so that people don't mistakenly set them unless they recompile to _use_ those options. lots of debugging done, it's still not finished. the unix/NT uid/gid and user-rid/group-rid issues are better, but not perfect. the "BUILTIN" domain is still missing: users cannot be added to "BUILTIN" groups yet, as we only have an "alias" db API and a "group" db API but not "builtin-alias" db API... (This used to be commit 5d5d7e4de7d1514ab87b07ede629de8aa00519a1)
1998-11-17- group database API. oops and oh dear, the threat has been carried out:Luke Leighton1-2/+0
the pre-alpha "domain group" etc parameters have disappeared. - interactive debug detection - re-added mem_man (andrew's memory management, detects memory corruption) - american spellings of "initialise" replaced with english spelling of "initialise". - started on "lookup_name()" and "lookup_sid()" functions. proper ones. - moved lots of functions around. created some modules of commonly used code. e.g the password file locking code, which is used in groupfile.c and aliasfile.c and smbpass.c - moved RID_TYPE_MASK up another bit. this is really unfortunate, but there is no other "fast" way to identify users from groups from aliases. i do not believe that this code saves us anything (the multipliers) and puts us at a disadvantage (reduces the useable rid space). the designers of NT aren't silly: if they can get away with a user- interface-speed LsaLookupNames / LsaLookupSids, then so can we. i spoke with isaac at the cifs conference, the only time for example that they do a security context check is on file create. certainly not on individual file reads / writes, which would drastically hit their performance and ours, too. - renamed myworkgroup to global_sam_name, amongst other things, when used in the rpc code. there is also a global_member_name, as we are always responsible for a SAM database, the scope of which is limited by the role of the machine (e.g if a member of a workgroup, your SAM is for _local_ logins only, and its name is the name of your server. you even still have a SID. see LsaQueryInfoPolicy, levels 3 and 5). - updated functionality of groupname.c to be able to cope with names like DOMAIN\group and SERVER\alias. used this code to be able to do aliases as well as groups. this code may actually be better off being used in username mapping, too. - created a connect to serverlist function in clientgen.c and used it in password.c - initialisation in server.c depends on the role of the server. well, it does now. - rpctorture. smbtorture. EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION. (This used to be commit 0d21e1e6090b933f396c764af535ca3388a562db)

1998-09-05tridge the destroyer returns!Andrew Tridgell1-2/+4
prompted by the interpret_security() dead code that Jean-Francois pointed out I added a make target "finddead" that finds potentially dead (ie. unused) code. It spat out 304 function names ... I went through these are deleted many of them, making others static (finddead also reports functions that are used only in the local file). in doing this I have almost certainly deleted some useful code. I may have even prevented compilation with some compile options. I apologise. I decided it was better to get rid of this code now and add back the one or two functions that are needed than to keep all this baggage. So, if I have done a bit too much "destroying" then let me know. Keep the swearing to a minimum :) One bit I didn't do is the ubibt code. Chris, can you look at that? Heaps of unused functions there. 1998-04-01cli_login.c :Luke Leighton1-0/+18
start to create the calls needed for client-side of "network" logins, which will be used for domain version of pass-through authentication. unfortunately, none of this code is called in the main branch, because smbclient BRANCH_NTDOM code isn't in use, yet! srv_netlog.c : fixed a problem with static net_login_network() which was being stubborn: the if() statement looked horrendous, so i split it into two if() statements, one to deal with the lm password; the other to deal with the nt password. the smb_password_check() functions should _not_ be called here, in case we decide to disable lm hashes for security reasons, just like nt does. so, we now get a response to the SAM_LOGON "network" call, but the connection is still dropped. a trace is needed from an nt server, which is why i started on the client-side code. see above, which is why i'm calling it a day :-) (This used to be commit 2c29a7d9cf2d8b35e4b6e37e5d24caa91af3a9be)
1998-03-11"For I have laboured mightily on Luke's code, and hath brokenJeremy Allison1-0/+395
all I saw" - the book of Jeremy, chapter 1 :-). So here is the mega-merge of the NTDOM branch server code. It doesn't include the new client side pieces, we'll look at that later. This should give the same functionality, server wise, as the NTDOM branch does, only merged into the main branch. Any fixes to domain controler functionality should be added to the main branch, not the NTDOM branch. This code compiles without warnings on gcc2.8, but will need further testing before we are sure all the working functionality of the NTDOM server branch has been correctly carried over. I hereby declare the server side of the NTDOM branch dead (and all who sail in her :-). Jeremy. (This used to be commit 118ba4d77a33248e762a2cf843fb7cbc906ee6e7)
